Cover Reveal: A TIME TO SPEAK by Nadine Brandes

Hey, folks! Happy summer! As you venture about (take a walk, a run, a hike, a swim… read a book!), I hope the sun kisses your face and warms your heart. And if you’re looking for a great book, I simply must recommend A TIME TO DIE by Nadine Brandes. The award-winning A TIME TO DIE released September 2014 and is definitely a do-not-miss book. Because Nadine is my critique partner {big squeal} I’ve had the opportunity to read the sequel, A TIME TO SPEAK, long before it’s fall release. Wow… just, oh wow! So, here’s how you can join the adventure:

1. Read A TIME TO DIE . (Enter HERE to win a signed copy!)

2. If you’re standing, sit. Take a deep breath. Prepare to lose yourself in A TIME TO SPEAK’s cover…

{big sigh} See what I mean?!? I recently visited with Nadine about the amazing cover, as well as her OUT OF TIME series. Our cyberspace paths crossed for just a few minutes, so I blasted her with a few “opposite” questions. You know, like “What do you prefer, cold or hot? Sweet or salty?”

Which best exemplifies your series…

Emotion or Logic?

Emotion — A Time to Die is a very emotional journey for Parvin and, from the feedback I’ve received from other readers, it’s usually an emotional journey for them, too. Logic certainly has its place, but it’s not the front runner in this book.

Hope or Despair

Can it be a mixture of both? {wink} Hope amidst despair? That is my goal for the series, to show that hope can be found even during the darkest most despairing moments of our lives. It was a struggle to portray this adequately and I re-wrote and re-wrote all the way up to the last minute trying to make sure I captured the hope. Phew! God’s hand was certainly in that journey!

Brave or Cowardly?

Brave. Parvin considers herself a coward and, in many situations, she acts like one. But there’s a bravery deep inside her that flares in the hardest situations. And bravery is strongest when it comes from a coward stepping up.

Now, if you haven’t read A TIME TO DIE, stop–spoilers ahead!

How do you live after you planned to die?

Parvin Blackwater should have died in her brother’s place. She didn’t. Now she’s the only one who can protect her village, but no one wants to listen. When the Council starts forcing “new and improved” Clocks on the public, those who refuse are declared Radicals and exiled.

Having been across the Wall once, Parvin is the only one who can save them. But instead of going through the Wall, she’s packed into a boxcar, loaded on a cargo ship, and forced out to sea.  How will she lead when facing the unknown?

Worse yet, why are people suddenly dying before their Clocks have zeroed-out?

Nadine Brandes Head ShotNadine Brandes is an adventurer, fusing authentic faith with bold imagination. Her dystopian trilogy, the Out of Time Series, challenged her to pursue shalom, which is now her favorite word (followed closely by ‘bumbershoot’.) When Nadine’s not taste-testing a new chai, editing fantasy novels, or being a Harry Potter super-nerd, she and her knight-in-shining armor (nickname: “hubby”) are out chasing adventures.

How about you — how goes the writing? 🙂

      1. I’m about ready to send out my first MS to a small publishing company I’ve been following. We’ll see how that goes. I have a bit more to do. Hopefully by the end of the month I’ll send it out. Thanks for the follow 🙂
